  • Our Palestine Working Group advocates for the rights of the Palestinian people and for an end to the occupation, colonization and genocide of the Palestinian people at the hands of the Israeli occupying forces.

We are currently in the midst of a local Boycott Chevron campaign and are exploring other ways in which to advance the cause of Palestinian liberation here in Athens.

If you would like to get involved with our work, please contact athensareadsa@gmail.com and include "Palestine WG" in the subject.

  • Our chapter hosts monthly clean up and mutual aid distributions the 2nd Sunday of each month along Nellie B. Ave, our adopted road. We’ll provide cleaning supplies, water, snacks, and items to give.

Meet at the East Athens Educational Dance Center. Start time is 2 PM or 10 AM, depending on the season. Check the newletter, Discord, or Instagram for the current start time.

    Brake Light Clinics
Twice a year we also host Brake Light Clinics. These events are where we change people’s broken brake lights for free in order to to reduce police interactions and also have discussions with people about their personal experiences with police.

More than 50,000 drivers are pulled over in a traffic stop every day in the U.S., according to the Stanford Open Policing Project, which collected reports that found police disproportionately stop black drivers at a higher rate compared to white drivers, and black drivers are 20 percent more likely to get a ticket than white drivers, underlining the stark racial disparities within the criminal justice system.

The process for fixing brake lights is simple, but will help in reducing community interactions with police.

Stay tuned for announcements of when our next clinic will be scheduled!

  • During our previous Chapter Convention, the members of Athens Area DSA voted to endorse fellow DSA member Tim Denson for Mayor! Tim envisions an Athens where everyone’s needs are met- including their needs for safety, for transparent and accessible democracy, and for housing and economic secuity.

Weekly Canvassing for Tim (Meet at ACC Library):
    Tuesdays at 4 PM
    Saturdays at 1 PM

Why canvass? Canvassing is one of the most effective tools for voter engagement and turnout. Direct, face-to-face conversations help build trust and create personal connections with undecided voters. It allows us to meet community members where they are and communicate the messages of the campaign. Whether you’re brand new or an experienced canvasser, we hope to see you at one of these

Our electoral working group has virtual check-ins every other Tuesday on Zoom, sign up here.

If you questions about our electoral work, please contact athensareadsa@gmail.com and include "Electoral WG" in the subject.
